Hills Residence

Client Brief:

The contemporary architecture and the practical floor plan of this brand new home worked well for the Clients; however 3 immediate changes were needed:

  • To incorporate gas heating, media viewing & sound equipment to the spacious lounge and, at the same time, make music available to an adjacent family room.
  • To decorate the Guest Room, retaining all existing furniture. With years of travelling & hundreds of hours spent in hotels, the owners didn’t want the “hotel” look; their brief was to create something different that was fresh, comfortable & welcoming.
  • To transform the owner’s study, turning it from a sterile white room into a space that is calm & warm yet quite masculine.

Response:

  • Lounge Room: The sleek designer fire and LCD screen are housed in a custom-designed fireplace, with hi-fi equipment hidden behind custom joinery. TV and Hi-fi equipment are managed by a single remote with a separate controller managing music played simultaneously or independently between lounge & family areas. Comfortable leather lounges and moody hued walls are lifted by bright throws and vivid artwork.
  • Guest Bedroom: Wall stripes add a point of difference, sitting in contrast to floral feather-filled bed linen, and the green and white palette brings cool, crisp freshness to the room. A special aged finish was applied to the bed and cabinets which, together with French brass architectural hardware, gives the furniture a new lease of life.
  • Study: Dark, tone on tone stripes applied to the walls brings drama, warmth & masculinity. Softened by ivory Roman blinds and ivory shade on a brass and leather lamp, the new study takes on the quiet of a “Gentleman’s Club”.
